After several years of development, Art Dallas has put together a system
that will get you away from the "poster catalogs" and the other
commercially available sources you’ve been using. Here’s how it works.
Step 1: Pick the subject matter for your art.
Step 2: Browse the styles.
Step 3: Pick a medium from the alternatives listed.
Step 4: Give us an idea of the a) Image size and b)
overall size of the piece you have in mind.
Step 5: E-mail, fax or call in the assembled
information including your quantity.
Step 1: Pick the subject matter for your
art.
If you don’t have publication rights for a piece you
already have, you can browse our image bank for comparable subject
matter or design. As shown in “
Examples” we can use parts of images or the whole frame. We can change the
colors, leave them intact or pick a monochromatic alternative. We can
make them big or little, bright or dark, in-focus or out or we can
superimpose image aspects right where they’re least expected. Your job
is to find an image that provides a starting point for the process. You
do that by selecting an appropriate category from the
Image Bank list
and browsing the images in that category.
If you have a general idea of what might work for your project,
select the category from the list presented here and browse the images
in that category. If that category doesn’t have anything of interest to
you, try another category. One of our favorite orchids, for instance is
in the JAMAICA category (under TRAVEL). In all, we have acquired the right to publish over 200,000 large-format images represented
as thumbnails in the image bank. You should be able to find an image or two
whose content is a reasonable "fit" with your project. Remember, you
judge solely on the basis of image content. We’ll deal with what the final image needs to look
like later.
Step 2: Browse the styles.
Here you will find examples of a variety of treatments we’ve
used before and which can be applied to your image. If none of the
styles exactly matches what you want, pick one or two that come close to
what you’re looking for.
Step 3: Pick a medium from the alternatives
listed.
Do you want your image printed on 100% white rag? 100% cream
rag? Brilliant white bond? Canvas? Glossy/Matte photographic paper? You
have your choice from a number of "standard" media.
We’ve developed excellent rag papers which we have custom made for us.
These fine, 100% rag papers emulate the tooth, feel and substance of the
finest hand laid French papers but because we deal directly with the
mill, they’re available at a very reasonable cost. Commercially
available brilliant white bonds and photographic papers yield very
bright primaries and a very "crisp" image. We print a lot on canvas,
particularly for our residential and public space installations.
Step 4: Give us an idea of the a) Image size
and b) overall size of the piece you have in mind.
These figures will help us work with you to develop your framing and
other presentation options for your art. Write down the image size
(WxH) and overall size (WxH).
Step 5: E-mail, fax or call in the assembled
information including your quantity.
We’ll get back to you immediately (either by phone, fax or email) to
confirm our understanding of what you’re looking for. Then our graphics
department will put together a small version of the image(s) you’ve
designed and send it to you (via email or a small-scale, hard proof). After you've reviewed the proof,
let us know if it’s OK, or if
not, what changes need to be done.
We’ll repeat this process until you’re satisfied that you’ve got what
you want. Then, we’ll generate a small (about 10x12) final "proof" on the
medium you selected and get it to you. If this is what you want, we’ll
then make a full size version and get it to you for your approval.
And that’s it --- for the art. Throughout the development process, we’ll
discuss framing options with you, we’ll get samples to you and we’ll
work with you to resolve all the other aspects of your art project.
